Two recurring complaints in post-migration reviews: "half our files lost their sensitivity labels" and "all the links in our documents still go back to Google." Both are now solved out of the box.
The June 2026 release of Cloudiway adds Sensitivity Label Migration to the tenant-to-tenant product line, and Link Rewriting to all Google Drive migration scenarios. Both features are opt-in, require no additional infrastructure, and integrate directly into the standard migration workflow.
Sensitivity Label Migration
Labels that travel with the content
Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels are tenant-specific: a label created in the source tenant does not exist in the target tenant. In most migrations this means all labelled content arrives at the destination without any classification, forcing administrators to re-label everything manually — or live with unprotected content.
Sensitivity Label Migration solves this by mapping source labels to target labels before the migration starts. During migration, each file's label metadata is read, looked up in the mapping table, and the corresponding target label is applied to the migrated file. Labels travel with the content automatically.
What it covers:
- Files in OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online
- Encrypted files re-protected with the target tenant's Azure Rights Management keys — so documents remain accessible after migration
- Flexible mapping: one-to-one or many-to-one, with CSV bulk import for large label catalogues
- Labels applied at migration time — no post-migration scan required
This feature is particularly relevant for mergers and acquisitions, where the acquiring entity has an established labelling policy that must be enforced on all incoming content from day one. It also simplifies compliance obligations: content arrives in the target tenant already classified, so DLP policies and conditional access rules apply immediately.
Link Rewriting for Google Drive to Microsoft 365
Hyperlinks that actually work after migration
Google Drive documents frequently contain hyperlinks pointing to other files in the same drive. After migration, those links still point to Google — users who click them are redirected to files in a tenant they no longer have access to.
Link Rewriting addresses this at migration time. As each Office file is migrated, Cloudiway inspects its embedded links and rewrites any Google Drive URL to the corresponding Microsoft 365 URL using a link mapping table that is built and maintained automatically throughout the migration. No manual configuration is needed.
How the mapping table works:
- For every file migrated, the source Google URL and target Microsoft 365 URL are recorded in real time
- Links are rewritten inline as each file is processed
- Links whose target has not yet been migrated are flagged in the View Links panel for later remediation
- Admins can trigger a remediation run at any time once the referenced files have been migrated
Link Rewriting supports all main Google Drive migration targets: OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams. It inspects .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx files up to 100 MB. The feature activates only for Google source connectors and is silently ignored for any other migration source.
When to use each feature
Use Sensitivity Label Migration when…
You are running a Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration and the source tenant has a Microsoft Purview labelling policy. Any merger, acquisition, or consolidation project where compliance continuity is a requirement.
Use Link Rewriting when…
You are migrating Google Drive content to Microsoft 365 and your users rely on hyperlinks between documents — shared project files, wikis, cross-referenced reports. Any organisation where Google Drive is used collaboratively, not just as file storage.
Both features are independent and can be enabled in the same migration project if the scope calls for it. They are controlled by a single toggle in the Global Settings of the relevant migration object — no extra licensing or API quota is required.
Get started
Both features are available now in the Cloudiway migration platform. To enable them:
- Sensitivity Label Migration: go to your tenant-to-tenant project, open Global Settings → Sensitivity Labels, configure the label mapping, and run the migration as usual.
- Link Rewriting: go to your Google Drive migration project, open Files → Global Settings → Link Rewriting, toggle Rewrite Links on, and run the migration as usual.
Full configuration details are in the admin guides linked above. If you have questions or need help setting up label mappings for a complex policy, the Cloudiway support team is available from the support portal.
